First thing’s first: put the turkey in the oven. Chances are the big guy needs several hours (read: all day) to cook. Once he’s in there, pour some coffee, enjoy a pumpkin breakfast and indulge in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

When the time’s right start cooking your side dishes based on the prep cards you made for each one. The only two things that haven’t been prepped yet should be the mashed potatoes and turkey gravy.

About an hour and a half before your meal, start boiling potatoes. Once they’re nice and cooked, mash away adding milk, butter, garlic and whatever else your family likes. When they’re mashed to perfection, cover and place in the oven on low to warm. Feel free to add any already-cooked side dishes in as well to keep warm.

Everyone has a different gravy recipe, so follow the directions on yours and start on it when necessary. If you don’t have any cornstarch for thickening, just add some flour instead.

When the table is set and everyone is summoned, put the pies in the oven to bake. Having the desserts bake while you’re eating is an easy way to ensure that they’re ready and delicious when dinner is done.
